Watched Rockstar today and yes I liked this Imtiaz Ali product. I didn’t like his Jab We Met or the love aaj kal.. In my opinion these were mere extensions of his Socha Na Tha (which I did like). Rockstar isn’t any different with respect to the basic plot but then I’ve not been involved in a movie to this extent in a long time. Probably it was because of the theatre I chose, luckily the sound system was brilliant, the AC was working and switched on!! (hyderabad yaaro) and the theatre was almost empty. To watch a movie in an almost-empty theatre for me is the ultimate movie experience. Alone in the theatre with hardly any murmur… couples(because they were like 10of them and the only people in the theatre) choosing the #worldfamous corner seats or the darker spots… Me sitting in the middle alone with no one around for at least 2 rows north and south. Tweeting when I want to, foot-tapping and head banging at times. Occasionally air-strumming too.
Kun faya Kun saved the first half for me. Rahman and Ranbir the second half. I can’t see Ranbir as this innocent gavar which he also played in that ajab prem ki movie. He is a misfit for those kind of roles. (again debatable)
I will probably watch the movie again in the coming weeks.
And I intentionally left Nargis Fakhri out of this post for obvious reasons.
